You could take that game, give it a HD graphics engine and not touch anything else and it’d be fantastic.
It’s definitely hard to separate that top three but KotOR’s actual gameplay has dated quite a bit, while TIE Fighter still feels amazing, just the graphics have dated it.
If you think I’ve left out anything that’s particularly worth mentioning, let me know. I’ve also just given the first system (or systems) that a game appeared on, rather than list various conversions.

For the sake of my sanity (and your precious time), handheld and mobile games are out, along with pinball, browser games, TV games, expansion packs (remember those?), that Star Wars game that was only ever released in Japan, and anything branded as ‘edutainment’. *OK, not quite EVERY Star Wars game ever. But it’s the brilliant supporting cast that really stick in the memory, from poor, naive Mission Vao to the hilariously ruthless assassin droid HK-47: “It is my primary function to burn holes through meatbags that you wish removed from the galaxy.” KOTOR gave you the Star Wars universe to explore, and the story and characters were engaging and well written enough to make you feel part of it and believe that it was worth saving – something that precious few Star Wars games have achieved.

The port of Star Wars Episode I: Racer for the Nintendo Switch was first revealed in March, in a surprise Nintendo Direct Mini that was jam-packed with announcements of new games and updates. Podracers may be upgraded, with races in single-player campaigns or split-screen multiplayer. Players may choose between 25 characters in Star Wars Episode I: Racer, including Anakin Skywalker and Sebulba, with tracks across different planets in the Star Wars series, including Tatooine where the podracing sequence from Phantom Menace took place. Trophies have also been added, so PlayStation 4 players will have something else to chase besides the podracers in front of them. The studio made sure that controlling the podracers “feels comfortable in all configurations,” which includes using individual Joy-Cons.Īspyr “ uprezzed” the game’s FMV sequences, with everything natively re-exported into higher resolutions, according to a PlayStation Blog post. Vicari also discussed the racing game’s modernized controls, particularly for the Nintendo Switch. Aspyr, the developer behind the recent ports of Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy and Star Wars Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast, both for the Nintendo Switch, is also in charge of bringing Star Wars Episode I: Racer to modern consoles.Īspyr producer James Vicari said that remastering Star Wars Episode I: Racer was an important project for the studio “because good games should never be forgotten and great games deserve to be revisited as much as possible,” he told in an interview. The racing game was launched alongside Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace, and it is based on podracing, one of the film’s most memorable sequences. Star Wars Episode I: Racer, originally rolled out for the Nintendo 64 and PC in 1999, will be re-released for the PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch on May 12.
